Just An Architect//BinWTD_Khaled
Let me start by saying an architect does not “just draw,” an architect does not “just-do-buildings.” Yes, an architect can draw and an architect is involved with buildings, but the abilities that an architect possesses encompasses so much more than “just” that, also let’s not dwell on the definition of a building.
To a certain extent it is in fact all about design. Thats what architects are taught. Design. That obviously entails both 2D and 3D, with no restrictions to the interior or exterior. Space making is essentially what each architect strives to achieve. However, it is space that can interact with people, space that can help people, space that can engage with human interaction in general whether its visual, sensory and so on. It’s unfortunate that the common misconception boxes the scope of work produced to the typology of buildings when the truth of the matter is the capabilities go beyond a simple 3D extrusion.
The term architect has evolved over the years from a carpenter, to a builder, to a planner, to a designer. In the beginning the profession started out as a simple need for shelter and, just as the wheel was not invented from the first try, the first successfully functional shelter was not built from the first try. There was a continuous process that was driven by the necessity for the result.
Whether the incentive comes from a social need to react or a passionate want to improve, an architect is taught to commit to a process that doesn’t necessarily terminate with a single product. The commitment to this process is what drives the project, it’s what develops it further. Ultimately, this rigorous involvement in the process of design is what becomes instilled in each architect throughout their education. There are no limitations. And thats it right there. There are no limitations.

Architects that went that extra step:
Below is a link to the blog of the noun project that was started by a an named Edward, who after studying architecture and working for a firm came to the realization that there was a need for an archive of iconic graphics within the architecture world and started his venture of graphic design, purely based on that goal. This is a perfect example of how architecture allows for the potential for branching out beyond the common misconception of what an architect is.

And here is the link to the website itself
Here’s a link to the product design company MNML started by Scott Wilson, who incorporated the design skills he learned throughout his education and later began his career as an industrial designer. His most famous piece is the TikTok iPod Nano watch strap that has gained international recognition. Further pushing the envelope for what an architect is capable of doing.
